In the same way that we think before we speak, we strategize before we execute.

Or, at least, we should.

Strategy is the breath we take before submerging ourselves into the pile of work we will inevitably create.

We take that breath to identify the roadblocks and constraints that are bound to exist when you apply a theoretical narrative to a tangible reality.

Because that's where marketing happens.

In.

Real.

Life.

Good marketing strategy makes (1) products tangible for consumers and (2) goals tangible for the business.

It should detail which channels are most effective, who will be spoken to, how they'll be found, what will be said, where they'll be pointed, and what will be offered.

But it should also detail who will do what, which things are priority, what timelines are feasible, and how success should be measured.

That’s a lot, I know.

For most, the strategy step in the marketing process is the bane of their existence.

Ironically, it's also the very thing that keeps us existing.

Without strategy, you have a to-d0 list, not a vision.

Businesses that Lack Strategy…

  • Can’t convert their marketing goals into action items.

  • Are constantly worried about doing “the wrong things.”

  • Struggle to prove ROI for their efforts.

  • Fail to get stakeholders on board with initiatives and campaigns.

  • Complete tasks without connecting them to their narrative.
